Technical characteristics Blue Limestone of Bocq
Pierre Bleue du Bocq blue limestone, which is quarried in the Bocq Valley in Namur Province, Belgium, is a crinoidal middle Tournasian limestone (Lower Carboniferous, Primary Age). This stone is not subject to frost damage and highly resistant to air pollution. Known as “petit granit” (“little granite”) in the trade, it can be dressed and finished just like any other blue or black limestone and lends itself to the same uses both indoors and out. With a ground finish, the stone takes on a marked blue colour, whereas polishing reveals the black stone on which the white fossil inclusions become clearly visible.
The stone known as Pierre Bleue du Bocq and Petit Granit du Bocq has been granted technical approval by the Belgian Union for Technical Approval in Construction (UBAtc in French). The Walloon Region has also given it the status of a designation of local origin. Both are guarantees of its quality.
"Pierre Bleue du Bocq" is a trademarkt protected by n° 0896791-BOIP.
